Thanksgiving Service for Deirdre Coleman

Issue 1015_DeirdreThe PLC Sydney community joined together on Saturday 18 July to celebrate the life of teacher Ms Deirdre Coleman.

Deirdre commenced at the College in May 1990 as an Ancient History and English teacher. She was appointed Head of the English/Drama Faculty January 1992 and then as Dean of Students 2007, first as Years 7-9 then as Years 10-12.

Dr Burgis began the Thanksgiving Service by welcoming those in attendance, which was followed by a reading of Psalm 212 by 2016 School Captain, Lucy Rowse.

Ex-students Eloise Davison (Class of 2011) and Annie Watson (Class of 2013) spoke warmly about their recollections of Ms Coleman as a great teacher.

Mrs Maria Halkidis spoke on behalf of the staff and reflected on her memories of Deirdre as a wonderful colleague.

Special thanks go to Alison Chen in Year 10 who played several beautiful pieces on the piano, before and during the service.

The service concluded with a prayer and the unveiling of a plaque in the Year 12 Common Room, which has been renamed The Deirdre Coleman Centre for Year 12 Students.

We wish to thank everyone who joined us on this important occasion to honour Deirdre’s life.
