Winner of the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing 2018
The judge for the 2018 Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing Anne Ryan, Curator, Australian prints, drawings and watercolours at the Art Gallery of NSW, selected 44 works from over 480 entries across Australia. She awarded the $25 000 acquisitive prize to Sydney artist Ceara Metlikovec for her drawing Indigo 5, January 2018. Metlikovec is a graduate of the the National Art School and the College of Fine Arts, Sydney and is represented by Fox Jensen Gallery.
Of the winning entry Anne Ryan stated; ‘This meticulously rendered and carefully considered work has, at first glance, all the hallmarks of minimalism. Closer inspection, however, reveals the unmistakable signs of the artist’s hand, with subtle rhythms and tensions over the surface of the sheet. Rendered with great clarity and precision using the most traditional of drawing mediums – graphite on paper – this drawing has a mysterious and meditative quality that draws the eye back in’.
