Sherie is on top of the world
Congratulations to Sherie Pan (Year 10) who received a Cambridge Outstanding Learner’s Award after being named Top in the World in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Global Perspectives. Cambridge IGCSE examinations are undertaken by students in 145 countries in 6100 schools.
In only the second year of PLC Sydney’s participation in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), we received extremely exciting news that one of our students, Sherie, had achieved first in the world in Global Perspectives. This subject offers students the opportunity to think critically about local, national and global issues.
‘I chose this subject because I wanted to explore issues from different perspectives so that I could understand why people act in certain ways. I was also keen to investigate how people coped with the consequences of their actions.'
Sherie was able to choose her own focus of study and did her research papers on nuclear weapons, gun control and vaccination, all controversial topics in the world today.
She has not yet decided what she would like to do in the future but her focus is on world issues and she has a desire to better understand the society she lives in locally, nationally and globally.
We congratulate Sherie on this impressive achievement and acknowledge the support of her teacher, Mrs Sarah Waller.
