PLC Sydney debaters win the Macquarie Schools' Cup

issue0417-mudsCongratulations to Jade Lin (Year 12), Christina Bouletos (Year 12) and Emma Tanevska (Year 12)  who won the Macquarie Schools’ Cup.

On Thursday 16 February 2017, PLC Sydney attended the Macquarie Schools’ Cup, an annual secondary school debating tournament hosted by Macquarie University Debating Society (MUDS). The tournament invites government and non-government schools within the Sydney region to take part in a day of fierce yet friendly debating competition.

PLC Sydney sent three senior teams, Year 11 students Lauren McGrath-Wild, Lina Cho and Sherie Pan (PLS 1); Jade, Christina and Emma (PLS 2); and PLS 3 consisting of Laurel Lu (Year 11), Rebekah Kang (Year 11) and Julia Raleigh (Year 12). The girls had a successful day with PLS 1 and PLS 2 winning three from three preliminary debates and PLS 3 winning two debates, closely missing out on the third. PLS 2 debated Hornsby Girls in the grand final, winning on an interesting topic about 'overseas volunteering v donating to charities instead', arguing on the affirmative side for charitable donations.

It was a brilliant day of bonding and rapid-fire debating, leaving all the girls exhausted but well and truly ready for the season ahead.
