Australian Science Olympiad Summer School

news-science-summer-school-thCongratulations to Kate McDonald (Year 11) who has attained a place at the prestigious and highly competitive Australian Science Olympiad Summer School. Competing against over 300 students this is a huge achievement. Congratulations Kate!

The Australian Science Olympiad Summer School is a two week residential science course for approximately 20 secondary school students who are invited to attend based on their performance in the Australian Science Olympiad Exams. The work schedule is intense and covers the equivalent of first year university studies in Earth and environmental sciences. Hosted by the Australian National University and the Research School of Earth Sciences in Canberra, the students will visit research laboratories, enjoy specialised talks by guest speakers and visit Geoscience Australia and live on campus.

At the end of the two week course the students do a series of examinations and 3 students are chosen for the Australian Science Olympiad team to compete at the International Science Olympiads – the Olympic Games for science students, which will be held in France in 2017.

“The Olympiad program is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves. Connecting with like-minded students at the summer school is a rewarding experience that I know Kate will thrive from.” Mrs Fiona Hendriks (Science Faculty at PLC Sydney).
