2019 Central Australia Experience

Students currently in Years 8 and 9 (in 2018) are invited to participate in the PDHPE Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Community Service Tour to Central Australia in June/July 2019. The tour is designed to provide all students with a unique opportunity to gain, in a respectful manner, a greater awareness, education, and appreciation for Australia’s Indigenous culture and people. They will also witness and experience some of Australia's most spectacular natural wonders.  

The tour is a cultural immersion program run by Remote Tours (http://remotetours.com.au/) It consists of an seven-day program based predominantly in the Kings Canyon area with visits to Uluru, Kata Tjuta National Park and MacDonnell Ranges.  

The tour also involves a three-day immersion and community service component in a local Aboriginal community Lilla  an outstation in Kings Canyon (a small Aboriginal community of 10-20 people). The community service component will depend on the current needs of the community, and may include projects such as helping in the community market gardens or organising and running a sports morning for local children. This will involve three half days with the remaining time spent in cultural learning and experience activities with local Aboriginal sites and people. All students are welcome as everything learned and experienced is of significant and worthwhile interest to everyone. 

The other three to four days will be visiting Uluru and surrounding areas of interest with continued cultural education.

Tour Dates: 
  • TBC: Sunday 30 June to Sunday 7 July 2019 (Week 1 of Term 2 School Holidays)
Cost:
  • Approximately $1800 - $2000 (depending on the number of participants and flight costs)
  • Includes: flights, accommodation and all food
  • Additional costs: drinks, snacks, shopping and souvenirs.
 
Expression of Interest

An initial deposit of $500 per person will be required to reserve your place on this Cultural Awareness and Community Service tour.  

This money will be fully refunded if the tour does not proceed. The deposit is non-refundable once numbers are confirmed and airline tickets are purchased.
