In 2018, PLC Sydney students in Years 9 to 12 will have the opportunity to travel to the Europe as part of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Tour.
Travelling to Geneva, Frankfurt, Paris and London students will be exposed to a broad range of STEM ideas and research. A highlight of the proposed tour is a visit to CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.
Educational travel enhances a student’s appreciation and understanding of the links between Mathematics and Science in the real world - real world Science. Through the enriched and varied experiences that make up the daily itinerary of the tour, students will wonder, explore, think, question, make connections, problem solve and create solutions. These are all intrinsic skills that will enhance their further studies of Mathematics and Science in Stages 5 and 6.
The experiences we have selected will cross all branches of Science, exposing students to awesome natural phenomena, technological icons, scientists working in the field and world class museums. PLC Sydney teachers will accompany the students.
Education travel in groups also provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate and develop a range of personal and social skills. In a supported environment students will be encouraged to be organised, prompt, independent and responsible. They will form new friendships and memories that will last well beyond their school years.
The Science Tour in April of 2016 was a great success. The flyer for the tour can be viewed here.
