(NO Classes on Saturday 12 may 2018 due to Open Day at PLC)

In Term 2, we are pleased to offer the following package:

  • Kindergarten/Year 1:Two courses: Cool Clothes and Build it Up

Courses are offered as a package, with two courses in each package, meaning all students enrolled will do both courses. NOTE: One Package not allowed.

Each class integrates hands-on activities around an interesting and exciting central theme.  This term students will learn about:

This course unit allows participants to learn about the types of clothes people wear in different climates, occupations and roles. They will have the opportunity to examine properties of materials, investigate safety wear, explore the role of fashion and compare different types of footwear. Students will research changes in clothing through the age, examine traditional costumes from various cultures, and will have the opportunity to develop design ideas with clothing. A range of both fiction and non-fiction books related to clothing will be read and discussed each week, and “Dress Up Day” will give the students a chance to wear one of their favourite outfits to class!

From the Great Pyramid of Giza to the Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower, the world is full of amazing buildings. In this course, students will learn about ten classic pieces of architecture – how they were designed and built, features of their architectural style, and how they are used or preserved today. They will be introduced to a timeline showing the era in which each building was created and the cultural context behind them. Participants will learn to interpret and draw a “bird’s - eye view” diagram and a cross-section, will add some of their own design features and variations to existing structures, and will have the opportunity each week to design and create their own models of buildings using a variety of materials.

The course will operate with 8 or more participants and spaces are strictly limited. Each class runs for one-and-a-half hours.

In the event of a course being undersubscribed by the cut-off date, a decision will be made as to what adjustment will take place. Thus, the options displayed here may vary slightly from what is finally offered, depending on student interest. Please note that such adjustments are rare and that every effort is made to preserve the courses in the form initially offered here.
