Anne Schroers (Teo) is working hard to help end world poverty

PLC Sydney Alumni, Anne Schroers (née Teo), left PLC Sydney in 1974. After completing a B.Sc. Dip Ed at Sydney University majoring in Pure Mathematics and Statistics, she taught High School Mathematics at Cremorne Girls and Hurstville Boys for 10 years as well as tutoring Maths privately for over 35 years.

In 2014, Anne and her husband, Ralf started the charity MICROLEND AUSTRALIA, with a vision to help "end world poverty". The charity is unique in that 100% of donations go towards the microfinance projects because the foundation absorb ALL administration costs as all their workers are volunteers.

The charity help people who earn less than $2.50/day by giving them a small loan to create a profitable business so they no longer depend on donations. When the loan is repaid the money is used to finance another business, meaning that the charity's work is empowering and self perpetuating.

Anne said: 'We make no profit from microfinance and do not charge interest, only a small management fee to pay the overseas microfinance coordinator. To date, we have provided assistance to people in Mongolia, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, India, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan and the Philippines.'

Being a small charity with no corporate sponsorship, the organisation exists on the generosity of individuals and other organisations. If you are interested in helping Anne's charity, they are holding a fundraiser Dinner and Dance for Cambodia on Saturday 10 March at 6.00 pm, Five Dock RSL. Guests speakers include Senator Paul Green and Dr Charlie Teo.

Tickets are $95.00 and all funds raised go to Microlend's Cambodian projects. All donations and gifts to Microlend Australia fully tax deductible.
