Riversdale Dreaming 2019 now open

Riversdale Dreaming, an exhibition of works by PLC Sydney Artist-in Residence Kiata Mason and Year 11 Visual Arts students, opened at Adelaide Perry on Thursday 30 May. This annual event showcases works produced en plein air during Year 11 Art Camp at the Yvonne and Arthur Boyd Education Centre at Riversdale on the Shoalhaven River, and in subsequent studio-based endeavours in The Croydon art studios.

Gallery curator Ms Courtney Wagner welcomed the crowd to the official opening event and thanked the many parents and staff who have supported the girls as they created the bodies of work on display. She spoke about the works Kiata produced during the residency and how the influence of Arthur Boyd -his life and work- is evident in a variety of ways, conceptually and visually.

Students Heidi Watkins and Maggie O’Reilly then shared with the audience some fond memories of their time at the three-day camp, a highlight being an impromptu talent quest. Macey Watson and Amelia Rader followed, each speaking about how Kiata Mason’s instruction and the art workshops offered at Riversdale have enriched their art practice and improved their
art technique.

Head of Visual Arts Ms Jo Knight addressed the crowd, congratulating the girls on their efforts and thanking Kiata Mason for her participation in the Artist-in-Residence program at PLC Sydney. Ms Knight also congratulated Curator Ms Courtney Wagner who departs on 31 May to complete a month-long professional experience placement awarded by the Australia Council the Arts at the Venice Biennale. To close the proceedings Art and Design Captain Claire Shi presented Ms Mason with a gift on behalf of the students and staff at PLC wishing her all the best in her future endeavours.

Riversdale Dreaming continues 8.30 am – 4.00 pm weekdays at Adelaide Perry Gallery until 20 June. Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite student work and a People’s Choice award will be presented at the close of the exhibition.
