HSC Design Exhibition 2019

This year’s HSC Design Exhibition, showcasing major projects by Year 12 students of Design and Technology (D&T) and Textiles and Design (T&D), opened at Adelaide Perry Gallery on Tuesday 30 July. The event was catered for by Year 11 Food Technology students, under the guidance of Mrs Cathy Wedd, who greeted Gallery visitors with excellent hand-made refreshments.
Ariana Galanos, Year 11, who will commence her role as 2020 Art & Design Captain in Term 4, performed an Acknowledgement of Country to begin the official proceedings. Gallery Curator, Ms Courtney Wagner introduced guest speaker PLC Ex-student Miss Elena Koskinas, who achieved great successes last year in her HSC studies in Textiles & Design, Design & Technology and Visual Arts at The Croydon. Elena spoke about her her time in The Croydon and how she is applying her skills to her current studies in a Bachelor of Visual Communication and Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.
Head of Technological and Applied Studies, Ms Jo Herrmann, commended this year’s design students on their perseverance and creative application of the design process. She acknowledged the excellent guidance students have received from their teachers, Mrs Maria Nastasi (T&D) and Ms Nadine Emans (D&T) and the invaluable support that comes from family and friends to students as a major project evolves. 

Ms Herrmann presented the following awards to recognise conscientious engagement in the design process:

  • Creativity and Innovation D&T: Esther Rutherford
  • Consistent effort and design application T&D: Sophie Bounds

Principal Dr Paul Burgis, then congratulated the classes for their achievements. He spoke about the importance and value of good design in our daily lives. He praised the girls for achieving beauty in their creations.

On behalf of their classes, gifts of appreciation were presented to Mrs Maria Nastasi (T&D) and Ms Nadine Emans (D&T) by Sophie Bounds & Esther Rutherford respectively.

To close proceedings, Art and Design Captain Claire Shi, thanked Miss Koskinas for her participation at the event and Ms Wagner extended her appreciation to the staff at the Croydon, and congratulated the exhibiting girls on their achievements in design this year.

PLC’s HSC Design Exhibition 2019 continues weekdays 8.30 am – 4.00 pm weekdays until 12 pm Friday 2 August at Adelaide Perry Gallery.
