Dreaming of Riversdale 2020
The Year 11 Visual Arts exhibition, usually known as Riversdale Dreaming, has ordinarily consisted of artworks made under the guidance of an Artist-in-Residence during our annual art camp held at Bundanon on the Shoalhaven River. However, in a year unlike any other, restrictions put in place to ensure the safety of our community meant that the camp could not go ahead and substantial adjustments to the Visual Arts program were necessary. Committed to delivering the stimulus an Artist-in-Residence experience provides, Ms Jo Knight (Head of Visual Arts) arranged for Sydney artist Peta Minnici to visit The Croydon Centre for Art and Design where she was filmed delivering painting and drawing workshops. In response to these newly created online resources, students applied the techniques taught and the resulting artworks were exhibited alongside Peta Minnici’s work at The Adelaide Perry Gallery from 18–25 June.
Our Artist-in-Residence viewed the exhibition and chose artworks for acknowledgement. These were announced in Minnici’s opening address, filmed during her visit and shown at the opening event for exhibiting artists. Commendation awards were presented to Talia Skuse, Jacinta Macaluso, Alice Liu, Amy Hur, Zara Ottaway, Heidi Osborne, Emily Li and Jessica Hong.
Overall, Dreaming of Riversdale was testament to the resilience, dedication and skill of our students who are all to be congratulated on a wonderful show.
Although we were unable to open the gallery to the public, the exhibition was recorded and is available for viewing online. See below.
