designartawards, PLC Sydney’s annual exhibition showcasing the outstanding and diverse achievements Technological and Applied Studies and Visual Arts students from Years 7–11, was officially opened at 6.30 pm Wednesday 20 November at Adelaide Perry Gallery.
To begin the official proceedings and awards ceremony, Dr Paul Burgis extended a warm welcome to the crowd of PLC Sydney families and friends in attendance. He expressed his gratitude to the students at The Croydon for creating the works on display, and to their parents and families for supporting their daughters’ studies throughout the year.
Adelaide Perry Gallery Curator Ms Courtney Wagner also welcomed the visitors to the event, the last exhibition on this year’s calendar, and congratulated the students on the high standard of works on display before introducing guest speaker PLC Sydney Ex-Student Hannah Green.
Ms Green, who completed HSC studies in Visual Arts, Design & Technology and Textiles & Design at The Croydon in 2015, commended the girls for the high quality of the works on display and said she was impressed by the breadth of media and techniques that students have engaged in during the year, across both faculties. Having recently returned from New York Fashion Week, where her independent fashion label Haan Haan was on display, Ms Green shared with the audience some of the exciting experiences had during her time spent there. She spoke about the challenges and rewards of completing tertiary studies at UTS and the Whitehouse School of Design and encouraged students to be passionate about what they choose to do in their careers after Year 12.
Ms Jo Knight, Head of Visual Arts, then announced the 2019 award winners in Visual Arts, Visual Design and Photography, Video & Digital Imaging.
Ms Jo Herrmann, Head of Technological and Applied Studies then announced the 2019 award winners in Design & Technology, Textiles & Design, Food Technology and Computing Applications.
Certificates were presented for Outstanding Achievement as well as Creativity and Consistency in each class.
Art & Design Captain Ariana Galanos, thanked Ms Green for her participation at the event, presenting a gift in appreciation, on behalf of the students and staff at PLC Sydney. Ms Jo Knight presented a bouquet to Ms Courtney Wagner in appreciation of her fine contributions as Gallery Curator in 2019 during the year. To close the proceedings, Ms Wagner gratefully acknowledged the students and their families for their attendance at the event and thanked The Croydon staff for their assistance in bringing the exhibition together.
The exhibition continues at Adelaide Perry Gallery weekdays 8.30 am – 4.00 pm until 29 November.
