Riversdale Dreaming Exhibition 2017

Riversdale Dreaming Exhibition Opening

Riversdale Dreaming, an exhibition of artworks by Year 11 Visual Arts students and PLC Artist-in-Residence Mirra Whale opened at Adelaide Perry Gallery on Thursday 25 May. In April, Year 11 Visual Arts had travelled to the Yvonne and Arthur Boyd Education Centre at Riversdale near Nowra for a three-day camp with Ms Whale, who has multiple-times been selected as a finalist in the annual Archibald Prize, and the works on display were inspired by this experience.

Art and Design Captain Vanessa Li began the proceedings with an Acknowledgement of Country followed by Year 11 students Belle Nugent and Annabelle Moore who shared some their impressions of the landscape at Riversdale. Ms Whale then addressed the crowd and spoke about her experiences at the camp and during the month-long residency in The Croydon Studios that followed. Ms Whale said she had been impressed by the students’ attentiveness and their enthusiasm to try new techniques as they worked through the workshops she’d set whilst at camp, commending the girls on how well the works had since developed. She expressed her gratitude to the staff and students at The Croydon for the positive experience in the Croydon Studios during Term 2. On behalf of the students and staff at PLC Sydney, Elena Koskinas presented Ms Whale with a gift in appreciation for her contribution as 2017 Artist-in-Residence.

Riversdale Dreaming continues 8.30 am – 4.00 pm weekdays until 8 June.

Visitors to the Gallery are invited to vote for a People’s Choice Award that will be presented in Term 3.
