Vibrant HSC Visual Arts celebrated at Artexpression opening
Artexpression, PLC Sydney’s annual showcase of HSC Visual Arts bodies of work, was officially opened at Adelaide Perry Gallery on Wednesday 12 August by local artist Mr Min-Woo Bang. The works of 21 students drew a crowd of family, friends and art lovers that filled the venue to capacity.
Principal, Dr Paul Burgis, began the official proceedings by welcoming everyone and thanking them for their attendance at the event. Mr Bang then congratulated the girls on the quality of their achievements in art and said he was honoured to declare the exhibition open.
Outgoing Art and Design Captain, Unjelique Hajjar, spoke fondly of her time in this role, thanking friends and family for their support over past year and reflecting on an ‘ecology’ at the Croydon that has made her experience such a positive one. Unjelique also warmly welcomed Art and Design Captain for 2016, Georgia Perivolaris, and wished her well in her new role. In turn, Georgia expressed her gratitude to Unjelique on behalf of the College, for the exceptional contribution she has made to the Visual Arts and Technological and Applied Studies faculties, and presented her with a gift of thanks.
Special awards were presented by Mr Keith Fyfe to the following students: Isabella Buchanan, Alice Chui, Jacqueline Meng, Phoebe Maher, Unjelique Hajjar and Amy Yu. 2014 Art and Design Captain Lucy Gilfedder presented the Captain’s Choice award to Josie Potter for her vibrant triptych, ‘Back to the Future’.
On behalf of their classes, students Olivia Kerr and Amy Yu paid tribute to their teachers, Mr Hetherington and Mr Fyfe respectively. Unjelique also presented a special thank you to Gallery Curator, Ms Knight, and Isabella Vari made presentations of thanks to Mr Paxton and Mrs Martin.
Congratulations to all the girls for a fine and vibrant exhibition!
