2018 Art Expression Exhibition

A celebration event at the closing of Artexpression 2018, an exhibition showcasing this year’s HSC Visual Arts Bodies of Work by PLC students, was held at Adelaide Perry Gallery on Thursday 23 August.

To begin the official proceedings Mark Hetherington, Gallery Curator, introduced Principal Dr Paul Burgis who welcomed Gallery visitors and commended each of the girls for their efforts in their HSC Visual Arts Bodies of Works.

Sydney photographer and former Director, Stills Gallery, Ms Bronwyn Rennex, addressed the crowd as special guest speaker. She congratulated the girls for the high standard of works on display. Referencing her own arts practice as well as those of some of the leading Australian photographers she has worked closely with as a director at the iconic Stills Gallery, Ms Rennex reflected on the challenges that are faced and the choices that need to be considered for artists to achieve success in their careers.

Claire Shi of Year 11, who will take up Elena Koskinas’ role as Art and Design Captain in 2019, spoke of the wonderful contributions Elena has made at The Croydon during the past year and presented a gift of appreciation on behalf of the students and staff at PLC Sydney. Elena congratulated her Visual Arts class mates and spoke fondly of her experiences in the role.

Head of Visual Arts Ms Jo Knight then acknowledged the fine efforts and commitment of Year 12 Visual Arts, and also their families and friends in the realisation of the works on display. Awards for Bravery, Resilience and Success were then presented to each of the girls: Grace Boulatouf, Caitlin Burke, Cate Caldis, Jackie Chamoun, Angel Chong, Noa Doyle, Georgia Galanos, Maeve Kelaher, Suzanne Kim, Elena Koskinas, Treiahna Lake, Julia Leggat, Ebony McQueen-Paice, Lucy McSwiggan, Annabelle Moore, Chanelle Mourad, Belle Nugent, Zoe Pliatsikas, Iliana Polly, Jessica Romiti, Eleni Svinos, Sophia Thompson Keppel-Richards, Chelsea Tran, Donna Tsang, Jennie Turne, Jenny Wu, Flora Zhang. Vanessa Li, last year’s Art & Design Captain returned to the Gallery to announce a Captain’s Choice Award which was presented to Suzanne Kim and Cait Caldis was awarded the Mr Paxton’s Choice award.

Exhibiting students Donna Tsang and Illiana Polly shared stories about their HSC Art experiences at The Croydon, speaking fondly of their Visual Arts classes this year, and on behalf of their classmates presented a gift in thanks to Ms Knight and Ms Gair. Zoe Pliatsikas presented a gift in thanks to Mr Paxton on behalf of the classes. Mr Hetherington thanked the Croydon Staff and especially Mrs Lesley Robinson for her help coordinating the catering for the evening.
