The College has a very strong reputation in Public Speaking and Debating. PLC Sydney students consistently perform well in public speaking competitions.
PLC Sydney students have an outstanding history of success at International level. In 2017, four PLC Sydney students represented Australia at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships. One student was 4th in World debating and another student was 5th overall in world. In 2016, one of our students was placed 1st in World in Interpretative Reading and 4th in World at Persuasive Speaking. PLC Sydney has participated at World events in 2014 (Lithuania), 2015 (Hong Kong), 2016 (Pittsburgh USA) and 2017 (Sydney). Our highest placing in world was 4th overall in 2015.
At the Australian Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship titles held in Brisbane in 2017, PLC Sydney students finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th place in Australia. In April 2018, four PLC students will travel to Cape Town, South Africa to fly the Australian flag.
PLC Sydney also holds an excellent performance record in the AHIGS Festival of Speech. They are the current holders of the Overall Winners' Shield in 2017. They have brought home this trophy fourteen times in the 20 years history and have been runner up six times.
The Annual PLC Sydney Public Speaking Challenge is a competition that is an integral part of public speaking at the College and has been running for over 40 years. The competition gives every student in the school an opportunity to participate, hone their speaking skills and share their views.
