The College has a very strong reputation in Public Speaking and Debating. PLC Sydney students consistently perform well in public speaking competitions.
In 2016, two PLC Sydney students represented Australia at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Pittsburgh, USA. In 2016, one of our students was placed 1st in World in Interpretative Reading and 4th in World at Persuasive Speaking. Overall, our students were 11th and 26th in the world in 2016. PLC Sydney has an outstanding record at Worlds, attending the event in 2014 in Lithuania and 2015 in Hong Kong. Our highest placing in world was 4th overall in 2015.
At the Australian Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship titles held in Canberra in 2016, three PLC Sydney students finished in the Top Ten - in 2nd, 5th and 8th place in Australia.
PLC Sydney also holds an excellent performance record in the AHIGS Festival of Speech. They are the current holders of the Overall Winners' Shield in 2015. They have brought home this trophy thirteen times in the 20 years history and have been runner up five times.
The Annual PLC Sydney Public Speaking Challenge is a competition that is an integral part of public speaking at the College and has been running for over 40 years. The competition gives every student in the school an opportunity to participate, hone their speaking skills and share their views.
