JD Oates Aquatic Institute

The JD Oates Aquatic Institute was built in 2006 to provide opportunities for students and members of the community to improve their skills in the water at all levels.

The JD Oates Aquatic Institute features two indoor heated pools and a large classroom. Learn to swim activities take place in the shallow twelve metre teaching pool. More proficient swimmers use the adjacent eight lane twenty-five metre competition water polo pool.

Since it was opened, this facility has attracted to PLC Sydney many elite swimmers who wish to balance their training and competition schedules with their studies. Often they choose to board in the Boarding House which is situated only a few metres from the pool.

In 2009 the College community celebrated the fruits of this outstanding facility when PLC Sydney won the IGSSA Swimming Carnival for the third consecutive year and then again in 2011. The swimming and water sports programs at the College have been strengthened by the JD Oates Aquatic Institute and it has contributed to the Croydon College becoming recognised as the number one swimming school in Sydney.

A vibrant swim club also operates at the JD Oates Aquatic Institute.
